Dani Filth (born Daniel Lloyd Davey) is the lyricist, vocalist and founding member of the British extreme metal band Cradle of Filth.
Biography
Dani was born to Susan Janet Moore and Lawrence John Davey and is the oldest child of four. Dani has two sisters; Amanda (b. 1975) and Rachel (b. 1978); and a brother, Phillip (b.1981). In his youthful years, Dani took his education very seriously, until he started gaining an interest in music (upon the first incarnation of Cradle of Filth, he drew out the band's logo on a piece of notebook paper). His earliest bands were Carnival Fruitcake, The Lemon Grove Kids, PDA and Feast of Excrement, and he named Judas Priest, Venom, Emperor, Destruction, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Sabbat, The Misfits, Paradise Lost and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas among his major influences. At the age of eighteen, Filth took up a job at a Chinese restaurant. He later chose his career in music over an internship at a newspaper, although his "Dani's Inferno" column ran for two years in Metal Hammer during the late 1990s.
Cradle had no actual proper record deal (barring an abortive relationship with Tombstone Records) until 1994, when their first album, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh was released by Cacophonous.
He married his girlfriend Toni, on October 31, 2005 in Ipswich, and the two share a daughter, Luna Scarlett (b. February 8, 1999).
He lives in Suffolk, England and is currently working on co-writing The Gospel of Filth with Gavin Baddeley.
Away from Cradle, Dani appeared on the Roadrunner United CD in 2005 (contributing vocals to "Dawn of a Golden Age"), and his high profile has also led to a handful of film and television roles. In 2003 he provided the voice of the eponymous main character in the feature-length animation Dominator.
In 2000 he appeared in the movie Cradle of Fear as The Man - a deranged psychopath taking revenge on his father's persecutors. The film also starred David McEwen, Edmund Dehn, Emily Booth, Eileen Daly, Rebecca Eden and Emma Rice. A homage to the cult Amicus anthology Asylum, Cradle of Fear unfolds four stories all linked by the thread of an incarcerated child killer wreaking vengeance on those responsible for his imprisonment. The movie's tagline on some posters was, "It's not if they die... It's how!"
He appeared during the final season of Bam Margera's MTV series Viva La Bam in an episode involving a stolen Hummer and a Cradle of Filth concert in Pennsylvania. The episode featured a portion of Cradle of Filth performing the song "Nemesis" from the album Nymphetamine. Additionally, the song "Babalon A.D. (So Glad for the Madness)" from the album Damnation and a Day was used in the background in the episode "Scavenger Hunt", when Bam dropped a piano on Ryan Dunn and Raab Himself's "Policia" car. "Her Ghost In The Fog" was also featured when Bam and Dunn went to a castle in Europe to get wine for his parents' anniversary. Dani also made a guest appearance on Big Brother's Big Mouth on the 11th of January 2008. In 2001, Dani was a guest on BBC2's Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
Cradle were the focus of an episode of BBC's documentary series "Living With The Enemy" (not to be confused with the radio comedy of the same name), in which the band defended their music and way of life against a mother who was concerned for her son.
Paul Allender is the guitarist of the British extreme metal band Cradle of Filth.
Early life
Paul Allender was born on 17 November 1970 in Colchester, Essex, UK.
At the age of six years old, his father introduced him to martial arts which led to a total way of life for him and the home which he grew up in.
He received his first guitar at the age of fourteen years old and played in staggered periods until he was nineteen years old because his martial arts training was always his first priority.
He joined the band as the guitarist in 1992 and stayed until 1996. In 1996, Paul left Cradle of Filth to join The Blood Divine and to spend more time with his son. In 1998 Paul started another band called Primary Slave. In 2000, just before Primary Slave signed for a record deal, Paul rejoined Cradle of Filth after receiving a phone call from Dani asking him to rejoin, along with drummer Adrian Erlandsson and keyboardist Martin Powell on the band's album, Midian.
Paul also has an art side project known as "Vomitorium: The Dark Art Of Cindy Frey And Paul Allender". He also produced the artwork for New Project's debut album Ultraviolent Light.
Charles Hedger is the guitarist for the extreme metal band Cradle of Filth.
Early life
Charles Hedger (Born on 18 September 1980) showed musical interest from a very early age. When he was 13, his brother gave him a copy of a tape from a local band that some of his friends were in, the demo tape was called The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, from an at the time fledgling British heavy metal band, Cradle of Filth. Then he got his first guitar, and learned some riffs with the help of a neighbour, Paul Allender. After learning much about guitar playing, at 19, Charles decided to take his guitar playing seriously, and he moved to London where he was accepted into the Guitar Institute in London to study a degree course in Popular Music Performance BMus on guitar. He graduated in 2004.
The following year his brother died, and Charles became greatly influenced to continue his guitar career in honour of his brother. He then started his own band, "End of Invention," in which he played lead guitar and vocals. He also began teaching guitar lessons at Colchester Institute, and studied Orchestration and Composition.
In 2005, Charles received a call and was asked to fill in for Dave Pybus, who made a short leave in the 2005 Cradle of Filth tour. He accepted, and played bass for Cradle of Filth on their 2005 tour.
Upon the return of Dave Pybus, Charles took a guitar position and currently plays guitar along with Paul Allender.
Now he plays in Cradle of Filth as well as his own band, Imperial Vengeance, together with David Bryan.
Dave Pybus (born June 4, 1970 in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, England).
Pybus's first band was called Anul Death (1988-91) which later changed its name to Darkened. In 1991, Dave formed Dreambreed, a band in which he provided vocals and played guitar. They were influenced by the Misfits and released a six track Mini CD Sometime in 1995. Dave stayed in Dreambreed, which line-up at that time featured Duncan Patterson of Anathema, until 1998, where he joined Anathema on bass guitar. He stayed with Anathema until 2001, appearing on two albums - Judgement (1999), A Fine day to Exit (2001), after which he sessioned and later joined Cradle of Filth following the departure of bassist Robin "Graves" Eaglestone (according to old bio on the band site, Pybus claimed that he refused to join, but the band kept hadgering him and he finally accepted seeing as they "couldn't find anyone ugly enough").
Dave appears on: Damnation and a Day (2003), Nymphetamine (2004), Thornography (2006), Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder (2008).
In 2005, Dave took a six month break from Cradle of Filth and started Sixsixsix Records. In that July he was honoured with an appearance on the Roadrunner United CD alongside Peter Steele, Josh Silver, Steve Holt and Joey Jordison. After his break he re-joined Cradle of Filth and played bass on the debut Angtoria album, released in April 2006 via Listenable Records. He then made a guest appearance on one song for German Horror punk band The Spook, released August 31st, 2007.
April 21st, 2008 finally saw the release of Dreambreed's "Misery Sessions" on CD, via Dave's Sixsixsix Record label. The sessions were originally recorded in 1997 and have only recently been re-mastered. He is currently endorsed by ESP Guitars, Ampeg Amplifiers and Rotosound strings.
Dave worked at Peaceville Records from 1990-1994 as a graphic designer. His name is credited on several records from that period including: Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Autopsy - Mental Funeral, My Dying Bride - As the Flower Withers and Turn Loose the Swans. Also worked with Vital Remains, Pitchshifter, Therion, Anathema, G.G.F.H., Kong, Paradise Lost, Banished, Pentagram, Ship of Fools, At the Gates (first 3 albums) and Morta Skuld. Around 1993 Peaceville signed a U.S. distribution deal with Caroline, where Dave and Lyle Preslar worked together for over a year.
Rosie Smith (On the left) is a rock and metal musician best known as the keyboardist for British extreme metal band Cradle of Filth, as well as appearing on "Temptation", the first single from Thornography. She was born in London in 1983, moved to Dorset at twelve. She earned a music diploma at Weymouth college, where she met and joined her first band, Jack's Back. During this time she also played saxophone in a Tina Turner tribute band. At the age of twenty, she attended Salford University, where her next band, Sugalo, was formed. Soon after that she met Cradle of Filth when she rehearsed to play for them. She also plays the harp. Contrary to many interviews by other band members Rosie Smith was not touted from the local music college to play for Cradle of Filth, but was suggested for audition by a mutual aquaintance.
Rosie Smith has also embarked on two projects separate to Cradle Of Filth, her solo project 'Rosa Damascena' and the duo 'Robert John and Rosie Smith'. Rosa Damascena has seen the release on one EP '3 Days Before Midnight', which is her own copyrighted genre 'Gazz' (goth jazz). Robert John and Rosie Smith are currently recording their debut album 'Broken Branches', and both records have been recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by Rosie Smith.
Sarah Jane Ferridge (born 25 February 1977 in Forest Gate, East London, England), better known by her stage name Sarah Jezebel Deva, is a backing vocalist in Cradle of Filth, and also fronts her own band, Angtoria.
Her career started at the age of eleven at the Queen's theatre. "Summertime" was her first performance ever in a band or to an audience, performing one more time at the age of thirteen. She then took a big leap from jazz into punk, where she secured a position as a co-vocalist. It took one show with "Mad Dog" and a lot of punks spitting to realise that punk was not for her. She went on to write her own lyrics and later recorded a demo. At the age of sixteen her singing career took another leap, this time into metal.
A T-shirt range was made available courtesy of Cradle of Filth guitarist Paul Allender as a 'favour' to Sarah Jezebel Deva in early 2006.
Sarah Jezebel Deva became a columnist for UK-based extreme music publication Zero Tolerance Magazine in 2006.
